چکیده

Abstract In this paper, a beam theory for predicting limit point buckling and bifurcation of shallow arches composed two layers flexibly bonded is presented. The flexibility layer bond results in interlayer slip, which significantly affects the critical transverse loads. presented based on layerwise assumption Euler–Bernoulli linear behavior interlayer. After establishing equilibrium equations boundary conditions, numerical method efficient solution these provided. first example, validated by comparative computations with much more elaborate finite element analysis assuming plane stress state. several other examples, effect stiffness, load distribution conditions stable unstable paths slip investigated.

Optimization of Shallow Arches against Instability Using Sensitivity Derivatives +

In this paper the author discusses the problem of optimization of shallow frame structures which involve a coupling of axial and bending responses. A shallow arch of a given shape and of given weight is optimized such that its limit point load is maximized. The cross-sectional area, A(x) and the moment of inertia, I(x) of the arch obey the relationship I(x) = p [A(x)] n, n = 1,2,3 and p is a sp...

Enhanced magnetoresistance in layered magnetic structures with antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange.

The electrical resistivity of Fe-Cr-Fe layers with antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange increases when the magnetizations of the Fe layers are aligned antiparallel. The eA'ect is much stronger than the usual anisotropic magnetoresistance and further increases in structures with more than two Fe layers. It can be explained in terms of spin-Aip scattering of conduction electrons caused by the an...

Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater

Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard  turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...

Sensitivity in the structural behavior of shallow arches

It is well established that certain structural buckling problems are extremely sensitive to small changes in configuration: geometric imperfections, load application, symmetry, boundary conditions, etc. This paper considers the behavior of a very shallow arch under lateral point loading, and specifically under the influence of changes in the thermal environment. In some ways the system under st...
